The New Living Translation
Thursday Givaway: Friday Edition

It’s Thursday Giveaway time again here at the NLT Blog. Yes, I know it’s Friday, but this just makes the beginning of the weekend that much sweeter. To make up for being a day late on the giveaway we’re going to be giving away two Bibles this week. This Bible would make a great gift for a young person.

Introducing the iShine Bible NLT:

Product description from

This compact Bible for tweens brings together the popular Christian tween brand iShine with the clearly understandable New Living Translation of the Bible and Bible features to build tweens’ faith. Full-color pages inside focus on one of the central themes of iShine: V.I.P. –Value, Identity, and Purpose. Tweens will see how they are valued by God, how their identity is found in Jesus, and the purpose that they have because of this. The iShine Bible answers questions relating to many of the issues that tweens face with a tween-friendly index. It also features articles on having a relationship with Jesus and growing in faith.

iShine is a tween brand that combines music (CD, and the iShine Live touring event), TV (iShine Connect Available on DVD through Provident/Sony), a web community (, and other media, including DVDs of the iShine Live concerts and “Sermonettes” by one of the hosts of the TV and concert tour, Paige Armstrong.

Here’s how you can win a copy:

We’ll pick two random people from all the entries to win a pink or blue iShine Bible.

Thank you for participating!

Any chance Tyndale would consider publishing a NLT Bible version that is SO desperately needed in the marketplace:

– Large print (10-11 pt. font)
– Center (or side) column cross references – complete
– Solid white pages (no text ghosting from other pages)
– Solid black text – not grey (easier on the eyes)
– Wide margins (for note taking)
– Red Letter (Christ) Text
– Concordance
– Dictionary
– Maps

Most of the Tyndale Bibles have the last three, but none have a complete set of all of the items above, nor do any other Bibles from the other publishers (Zondervan, BH Pub, Nelson, etc).

There is a huge market for a solid reference Bible (not study Bible) that would help people get into the Word, and stay there. Most Bibles today try to be everything to everybody, and the result is too much information crammed into thin, ghost-text pages written with tiny font, and other distracting items.

Study Bibles are great, but I’d GLADLY trade study notes for the items mentioned above…and so would millions of other people. For people who really want to get into deeper study, a good stand-alone commentary would work perfectly.

The NLT translation is by far the best of any modern translations, and a Bible that includes the items above would sell like wild fire, with me (and my whole church) being the first to buy!

Great job on the translation…

The closest thing we have to what you are looking for would be our Slimline Reference Bible NLT, Large Print, Center Column Reference edition. It has some of the feature you’re looking for including large print, classic reference features include a dictionary/concordance, full-color maps, etc.

It has wider margins than most of our Bibles, but is not technically a “wide margin” Bible.

Also, the reason the paper is usually so thin on Bibles is to cut down on the size and weight. If a Bible were made with similar paper as one of our fiction or non-fiction books it would be the size of 4 large novels (think of 4 copies of Francine Rivers’ new book Her Mother’s Hope).

I sincerely hope someday you find the right Bible, but in the meantime here’s a link to the closest thing we have –

Thanks for visiting the blog!
