Hello. This is not about the giveaway.

The NLT’s footnote at Mark 16:14 is in error. It is not true that “Some early manuscripts add” the material known as the Freer Logion. Only one extant manuscript (Codex W) has this feature.

When will this be fixed? And who is responsible for this rather elementary mistake?

Yours in Christ,

James Snapp, Jr.

James,

Thanks for your comment. While it is true that W is the only currently available manuscript with the Freer Logion, it is not an error to say that “some early manuscripts” include this text. First, since W is a 5th century manuscript, it certainly qualifies as early. Additionally, prior to the discovery of W, we already had a record of this variant from Jerome, who wrote about “certain exemplars and especially the Greek manuscripts” that contain this addition. Since Jerome is a 4/5th century witness, those manusripts he refers to (not directly available to us) would also qualify as early manuscripts that serve as witnesses to this addition.
