God’s Love Wins

There has been quite a bit of discussion lately about a new book that is coming out today: Love Wins by Rob Bell. You might have noticed. It isn’t our practice here at the NLT Blog to jump into theological controversies and offer opinions, and since I haven’t read the book it would be unwise for me to comment about it anyway. But there is one thing that is important to have clarity about before diving into the issues this book raises: What is love? More specifically, what is God’s love?

The book of 1 John has a lot to say about love, and particularly about God’s love. If you want the full picture, read the entire letter. There is a particularly good section in the second half of the letter that focuses on what love looks like. If you want to go straight to the heart of what John says about God’s love, though, read this section (1 John 4:7-21):

we had this same message in curch this morning and in the bible it tells us to love one another as God loves his church and my fiancee tells me this all the time “I love you the way God loves his Church this is priceless to me, if he can love me this way is it not my duty to love as God wants us to?? I try not to judge but love instead it gives us peace.
